STEP AP242 allows for tessellated files to be saved to the STEP format. Tessellated files are polygonal files, or what are sometimes referred to as VisRep files. Most STEP files are true BRep CAD files, with ‘precise’ geometry (as opposed to ‘tesselated’ geometry.
To open a tesselated STEP file with TransMagic, click on the TransMagic ‘star’ icon in the upper-left of the user interface, and choose Open QuickView. Then select the file you are interested in.
At right you can see an example of a tessellated STEP file being opened with Open QuickView.
In this case, the user wanted to convert the tesselated STEP file to a CAD file; we were able to do that by saving the tesselated STEP file to STL, then using Poly to CAD on the resulting STL file to convert file to a true CAD file. Note: when you run Poly to CAD (which is available in TransMagic EXPERT), the file will still be faceted, and the size of the file will grow substantially, because BRep files contain more information than polygonal files.
Once the file has been converted to a CAD file, you can save out to the CAD format of your choice using Save As.
