Job Descriptions

A short summary of job descriptions that benefit from the tools TransMagic provides.

Augmented / Virtual Reality
Augmented and Virtual Reality have a wealth of applications, from gaming to virtual training, from education to marketing. Typical needs in this sector include polygon reduction of CAD data, polygon optimization, and being able to save data out to a polygonal format such as OBJ, STL or Collada. Polygon reduction can make otherwise impossibly complex models fit optimally into the virtual environment. These capabilities can be found in all of TransMagic’s core products.

Engineering
Engineers typically have the widest range of uses for TransMagic products, including viewing, measuring, dimensioning and repairing CAD data, as well as comparing customer revisions, validating authority models, or comparing CMM points to CAD models.

Entertainment & Media
Designers and artists working with entertainment and media sometimes need to convert CAD b-rep data to polygonal formats, and reduce polygons in the process. TransMagic can be saved to formats compatible with 3ds Max, Maya, Unity 5, Unreal Engine 4 and many other modeling and animation solutions. Web-GL models can also be generated which are viewable in an HTML 5 browser, allowing rotation, pan and zoom with no plugins necessary.

Estimating / Quoting
Estimators are tasked with viewing customer geometry and estimating costs to design and/or manufacture the product. It can be tooling or fixturing that needs to be calculated, or complete product manufacturing that is required. By being able to view, measure and dimension true CAD B-rep data, estimators can be assured of volume, weight, surface area, key dimensions, overhangs, and other considerations before they quote the customer a final price. When the customer updates a design, it’s up to the estimator to know exactly what changed, so that there are no surprises when the part is eventually manufactured. Comparison software (MagicCheck) makes all model changes evident via a color plot and an automatic report.

Design
Designers need to view existing CAD files must sometimes perform digital mockup of multi-cad parts in a single assembly, using newly designed components against off the shelf components to make sure the assembly is viable.

System Administration / IT
Sys Admins are usually responsible for making sure the CAD users within a given department have the CAD tools they need installed and properly functioning. Sometimes this is as minimal as helping users get the latest update, and sometimes it can involve writing a custom script for an enterprise-wide CAD translation and repair tool such as TransMagic COMMAND; COMMAND is customizable, and can convert files across the network into a dozen different formats simultaneously and instantly, breaking design and engineering bottlenecks wide open, so that all users get the exact CAD data they need to get their jobs done.

Makers / 3D Printers
With TransMagic’s new polygonal reduction tool, CAD models can be converted to polygonal models with 10% or less polygons than previously, preserving the design of the part without overwhelming the 3D printer. A wealth of optimization settings further tune the model, which can then be saved to various polygonal formats, such as OBJ, STL, or PLY.

Marketing
Marketing departments often want images of products or components for catalogs, sales brochures, web pages, and more. TransMagic SUPERVIEW provides the ability to view any major 3D CAD format in the world, as well as save out to polygonal and graphic formats, with an option for nearly infinite resolution and transparent backgrounds.

Purchasing
Purchasing agents are often tasked with confirming that the product they took delivery of is the same one as ordered, and that it will fit the destination assembly. To this end, all core TransMagic products allow them to view, measure, dimension and interrogate models and assemblies. MagicCheck adds the ability to compare two parts to make sure the shipped part is within dimensional tolerance of the 3d CAD model. A part that is determined not to fit will be sent back or exchanged for the right fitting component.

Quality Control / Quality Assurance
Making sure that part quality is high often starts with a comparison between the CAD master model and a scanned or CMM measured prototype. MagicCheck enables users to see how closely the physical prototype matches the CAD model; differences can dictate adjustments to model size, mold settings, mold design, etc. The user sets the acceptable tolerance and a color plot makes areas that are outside of tolerance obvious. A report that defines all out-of-tolerance points is generated with the click of a button. MagicCheck also compares parts to parts, when there is question as to revisions and ‘what changed’ on the customer part during the most recent revision.

Toolmakers
Toolmakers need exact b-rep dimensions to do their job, and TransMagic products give them that capability – view, measure, dimension and interrogate. They can also save out polygonal or CAD geometry and import tooling designs into multi-CAD assemblies to test for fit.

Web Parts Libraries
WebGL output can be read by pure HTML 5 browsers with no plug-ins required, making the Web a great venue that some companies are already using for parts libraries; being able to inspect, zoom and rotate parts libraries makes finding that perfect fit for your design easier. All of TransMagic’s core products can output WebGL, and for companies who have massive library needs, TransMagic Batch and COMMAND allow for thousands of files to be translated to WebGL at one time.

Testimonials

ProNor AS
After many problems with files translation we tried TransMagic and successfully converted a very large surface model of a Norwegian oil rig to a solid model that we can now open in SolidWorks. TransMagic has done a tremendous job for us.
– J. I., ProNor AS

BRC Rubber and Plastics
TransMagic lets me share 3D models with our 5 locations that do not have CAD software. This has improved communication and saved time getting approvals, preparing job quotes and solving manufacturing issues. This capability has eliminated many communication problems between our design and build leaders.
– P. P., BRC Rubber and Plastics

J. O.
TransMagic is a great value because we need to open CAD files for quoting purposes…the cost is easily justified.
